The annual business report on the marketing research industry places The Marketing Workshop, Inc. at number 45.

The Marketing Workshop Inc. (MWI), based in Norcross, Ga., is a private company founded in 1972. Jim Nelems is founder and president of MWI.

U.S. revenues for 2002 were $11.6 million, up 9.4% over 2001.

MWI is a full-service custom marketing research firm devoted to quality design and analytical processes. The firm offers a full range of research services through telephone surveys (from two call centers in Norcross and Athens, Ga.), focus groups, mall intercepts and Internet research. Data collection is handled through its Compass Marketing Research Division, established in 1980, and both Internet and webcasting services through ActiveGroup, established in 1998 as an originator of focus group webcasting.

In '01, MWI produced and webcast "Marketing Research Live," a regularly scheduled 30-minute program on marketing research featuring keynote marketing research speakers and the chance to call in questions live as part of the program. The firm has been recognized for its efforts to brand and position its own services, through the use of Leonardo da Vinci's name and image.

MWI has about 70 full time employees and more than 300 interviewers who work on a part-time basis. The company's seven senior managers average 28 years of marketing research experience, with an average 15 years at MWI.
